The requirements for filing Form 2290 are nearly the same whether you file manually or online. The primary differences lie in the payment methods and the need to calculate the tax amount yourself when filing manually. Here's what you'll need:

  1. Business Details:

Ensure that your business information is accurate. This includes your business name, Employer Identification Number (EIN), and business type.

  1. Contact Information:

Provide your address, phone number, and email ID. Additionally, you’ll need to include the signing authority’s details, such as their name, designation, and phone number.

  1. Form Type and Tax Year:

If you are filing online, be sure to select the correct form type. For this process, you will need to choose Form 2290 and indicate the appropriate tax year. Make sure to select the correct tax year when filing your Form 2290 to avoid any future discrepancies.

  1. Have your Vehicle Details:

This is a crucial part of filing your Form 2290. You’ll need to ensure that the following information is accurate:

  • First Used Month (FUM): Select the month in which your vehicle was first used on highways.

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): Enter your vehicle’s identification number.

  • Taxable Gross Weight: Enter the taxable gross weight of the vehicle.

  • Vehicle Used for Logging: Indicate whether the vehicle is used for logging (Yes or No).

  1. Tax amount calculation:

Online Filing: If you choose the online method, the tax amount is automatically calculated and displayed on the dashboard. You can directly pay the amount shown on the portal. Choose Simple Form 2290 IRS Online Portal and file your form 2290 for just $7.95
